Why Weight Loss Isn’t the Best Specific Goal
Many people going to the gym are looking for one thing, weight loss. However, that’s not the best mindset to be in. You may be setting yourself up for failure before you even gave your chance to start. Why? A couple reasons. After reading those reasons, hopefully the tip at the bottom can help you get started the right way.
Your weight will fluctuate daily, even weekly. You’ll have good weeks and you’ll have bad weeks. Therefore, you’re likely to end up on the emotional roller coaster that is the scale. You will feel like you conquered the world when you are down pounds, and will feel completely demotivated those weeks you gain a pound or lose nothing. However, if you’re doing any form of weight training, you won’t see the scale move as much as you would like.
When you start lifting weights, you are going to put on some muscle. Guess what? Your muscles weigh something. Therefore, the body fat loss you just achieved may be offset on the scale by the muscle weight gain. And there’s nothing wrong with that!!! That’s EXACTLY what you want to achieve. However, if you’re not in the right mindset or you haven’t been taught by an Iron Fit trainer the right way to plan and monitor your goals, this won’t be the way you look at it. You’ll look at this situation as more of a negative than the positive it actually is.
Weight loss can be a goal, but it shouldn’t be the only goal. It should be the trunk of the tree, with different roots growing from it. Body fat loss, inches loss, feel better, a drop in blood pressure along with many more things that can be roots to help that tree and trunk develop. Without a sturdy brace, the tree will blow over in the wind.
At Iron Fit, we try and help you plant those roots to see the success you deserve. Contact us TODAY to see how we can help you better achieve your results.
