Helping people achieve a better lifestyle, through effective and personalized workouts.
So, you’re thinking about starting your fitness journey. You’ve bought the gym pass, got all the newest clothes and gadgets, and now you’re ready to get going. This is how it works out for many of us:
Week 1 : You go everyday that first week, and find yourself needing a nap by mid day. Too much you say
Week 2-3 : You scale it back a bit to 3-4 times/week, but notice you are still tired and sore. Something must be wrong
Week 4 : Ugh, you need to go to the gym again? So you drag yourself to the gym once or twice, to say you did it.
Week 5 onward : the gym ends up getting rich off of you, as you “lost your pass”
The key to seeing success in fitness is the same as life, you need to start off small and work your way up. Your body isn’t used to training, so of course it’s going to fight back. You’ll be way more tired, and you’ll be much more hungry. It’s a natural response that everyone goes through. Everyone that’s working hard enough that is…
The key is to set realistic goals and realize that it’s going to take you a bit more time than you expected. You need to set yourself up for success, rather than what you see everyone else doing. With out clients, we work on a realistic plan for our clients to follow, that fits into their lifestyle.
If you can’t fit it into your daily routine, what are the chances you’re going to succeed?
There are so many different “diet options” out there. Let’s try to name a few, and try to pick what we forgot;
Berensteins, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Shakeology, Body By Vi, South Beach, Biggest Loser, TLC Diet, Paleo Diet, Slim Fast, Nutrisystem, juice Plus, South Beach, Vegan, Atkins, any other diet that requires you take take an appetite suppressant, etc…
The key to all of these, is that most of us know someone who has tried one if them. If not one if these, they’ve tried some other “diet plan” out there. There’s strong potential that they or you didn’t succeed in the long run with any of these plans. Why? Because you didn’t learn how to properly eat when off these plans! If it was a plan that you learnt about foods and are still at your goals after being on the plan, while not being super restrictive, congratulations. You learnt and were able to adapt your lifestyle to proper eating patterns. The odds though…that’s not you.
The key to nutrition and your eating is education. Common sense tells you that if you eat less calories than before, cut out carbs or take an appetite suppressant, you’ll lose weight. Don’t be alarmed, that happens with everyone that does this. You likely aren’t a special case, and you’re at a high rate to gain back everything that you lost. You didn’t teach yourself how to properly portion your plate out. You didn’t take the time to learn about how much carbs, protein, fats or sugars you require, or what time of day you should & shouldn’t eat certain things. There are many things you can learn about nutrition and foods from your trainer.
Do you know the nutritional value of certain foods you eat? It sounds like a daunting task, but there are many apps & websites out there that help break this all down. Sure, they might not be 100% accurate, but they are darn close. Plus, you’ve learnt something about the foods you’re consuming. The more you know about what’s going in your body, the more likely you are to make the smarter choices.
These days, we are too quick to look for the safest way to see results. We believe that these results will last forever. And in some rare cases, they do. But that’s the minority of cases. Take the time to learn about foods, food groups, and what’s good & bad for your eating patterns. By doing this, it may take a bit longer to reach your goals. However, you have a better chance at staying at your goal once you reach it rather than someone who has taken the short, uneducated route there. No matter the shortcut you take, you always end up missing something…
It always intrigues me how little time, effort and money we spend
correctly on our bodies. If your washer breaks, you’ll call a repair man. If your car breaks down or your tire blows a leak, you’ll take it into a mechanic. When you get sick or injured, you’ll go see a doctor. When you need help getting healthy, you’ll do it on your own or go look at YouTube….something seems a bit off doesn’t it? Educated personal trainers, like the ones at Iron Fit, will help you safely and effectively reach your goals. They will give you the tools you need to successfully achieve your maximum potential, plus the ability to maintain it there. You will gain confidence in yourself and your abilities, while becoming educated on your body. How it works, functions, and needs daily maintenance. YouTube can’t give you that.
Anyone can go about guessing on how to achieve your maximum performance level. However, wouldn’t you want to achieve those results faster and safer? The same type of quality that you give your car or washer is surely enough for you, isn’t it?
Personal training is affordable for everyone, you just need to make the first step. It’s scary, as is any change. But we are there to guide you and help you along the way so it isn’t scary, it’s exciting. Take the first step and contact us today at (780) 718 – 4805.
Stair master. Bikes. Running. Elliptical. So many different forms of cardiovascular work, how do you choose which one is best for you? Well guess what, it ties back to a bunch of things.
– Do you have any injuries?
– Are you going for body fat loss? Athletic ability?
– What have you been currently doing?
– How fast do you want to see results?
– and any other things you can think of.
There are so many reasons to do different forms of cardio, but it all boils down to a main idea: Getting the right intensity set up (unless we are talking about the Recumbent Bike). You can have the best laid plans, and be running for 60 minutes or biking for 30. Or you’re busting your hump on the elliptical that sweat is pouring down. However, you could be doing all of this and a month later still be stuck in the same rut that you were in where you started. And that could all be attributed to your intensity.
Different goals require a different form of intensity for your cardio. If we are training a high performance athlete, you’re likely not doing the same thing as someone looking for body fat loss. Or maybe you are dong something similar, but we have your intervals set at a different frequency. It all boils down to making sure you are doing the right intensity for the goals you are looking for.
We have all seen people that have been going to the gym for months, yet they look the same. Why? It could be a ton of different reasons. But when you see them on their cardio equipment, are they going as hard as they can?Sure they may have an injury they are working with, which will inhibit what they can do. But an uninjured body should bust their butt on their cardio and feel like they can’t go any farther at the end of their session. Whether it’s a 20 minute session or a 60 minute session. If you can go longer than you’ve been going, you likely need to contact and iron Fit trainer to help you reach your goals.faster.
If you’re going to put in the 20-60 minutes, why not make it worth it? Iron Fit makes sure 100% of our clients have the appropriate cardiovascular program set up to help them hit their goals in the most effective & timely manner.
All of us have goals, no matter what facet of life we look at. Some have career goals, some have family goals and there are a ton of other goals that one may have. Fitness is no different, you always start out with a goal in mind. However, if your goal is for the short term, there’s strong potential that in a few years you may be back where you started. Why do I say that? Many times when we set our goals for short term success, we don’t develop the necessary habits or lifestyle changes to help us in the long run. You may hit your goals in the short term, but your poor habits may come back.
That’s exactly why they are called habits, because it’s what you revert to. Those that change their habits have a greater chance to end up seeing the long term success. A goal of losing a specific amount of body fat (notice how we didn’t say weight) in a certain amount of time is great. But, for example, you need to set a goal for the same time in a year. Then continue that yearly planning until your habits change. Ideally you should be able to change those habits within the year if you stay focused on the long term path. All of us know someone that started out with the best intentions, and likely saw some great results off the start. Then you see that person a few months later or a year later, and they are back where they started, or even farther behind. Iron Fit trainers focus on changing your lifestyle habits to help you stay focused and see long term success for you and your loved ones.
Many people going to the gym are looking for one thing, weight loss. However, that’s not the best mindset to be in. You may be setting yourself up for failure before you even gave your chance to start. Why? A couple reasons. After reading those reasons, hopefully the tip at the bottom can help you get started the right way.
Your weight will fluctuate daily, even weekly. You’ll have good weeks and you’ll have bad weeks. Therefore, you’re likely to end up on the emotional roller coaster that is the scale. You will feel like you conquered the world when you are down pounds, and will feel completely demotivated those weeks you gain a pound or lose nothing. However, if you’re doing any form of weight training, you won’t see the scale move as much as you would like.
When you start lifting weights, you are going to put on some muscle. Guess what? Your muscles weigh something. Therefore, the body fat loss you just achieved may be offset on the scale by the muscle weight gain. And there’s nothing wrong with that!!! That’s EXACTLY what you want to achieve. However, if you’re not in the right mindset or you haven’t been taught by an Iron Fit trainer the right way to plan and monitor your goals, this won’t be the way you look at it. You’ll look at this situation as more of a negative than the positive it actually is.
Weight loss can be a goal, but it shouldn’t be the only goal. It should be the trunk of the tree, with different roots growing from it. Body fat loss, inches loss, feel better, a drop in blood pressure along with many more things that can be roots to help that tree and trunk develop. Without a sturdy brace, the tree will blow over in the wind.
At Iron Fit, we try and help you plant those roots to see the success you deserve. Contact us TODAY to see how we can help you better achieve your results.
